Overview
Travel Canada provides informational travel content. This policy explains how information may be handled when you visit travel-canada.org or interact with content we publish on third-party platforms.
Information collected automatically
The website and its hosting or security providers may process limited technical information needed to deliver and protect the site, such as IP address, browser and device type, referring page, requested pages, timestamps, and diagnostic logs. We do not ask visitors to create an account on this website.
Cookies and analytics
The site may use essential technologies required for security and reliable delivery. On your first visit, a banner asks you to Accept or Decline analytics and advertising cookies; your choice is stored in this browser (sf3_consent, with the date it was set) and applies to this site only.
Google Analytics loads on every page, but until you Accept it runs without cookies (Google’s Consent Mode: cookie-based storage denied), so Google may still receive limited, cookie-less signals about the visit (such as an aggregated, non-identifying ping), which Google may use to model overall traffic; see Google’s Consent Mode documentation for details of what this involves. The Meta Pixel does not load at all until you Accept.
If you Accept, analytics may collect aggregated information about visits and interactions so we can understand and improve the content, and the Meta Pixel loads to help measure the performance of advertising that links to this site. The Meta Pixel sends Meta Platforms, Inc. data about your visit, such as the page address, your browser, your IP address, and whether you clicked a link to get-eta.com, and it sets a _fbp cookie in your browser; Meta may use this data under its own policy, see Meta’s Privacy Policy.
You can change your choice at any time using Cookie settings in the footer of this site, which reopens the banner. Switching from Accept to Decline stops analytics storage and immediately stops the Meta Pixel from sending further events on the current page (and it will not load again on later page views), though it does not retroactively delete cookies already set in your browser, such as _fbp (Meta Pixel) or _ga / _ga_* (Google Analytics) — you can remove those yourself through your browser’s cookie settings. The site owner’s own visits are excluded from all of this separately: open the page once with ?noga=1 in the address bar to turn everything off in this browser on this site regardless of the consent choice, or ?noga=0 to turn it back on. All of this requires JavaScript to run, and clearing this site’s browser data (cookies/local storage) resets both your consent choice and the owner opt-out.
External links
Articles may link to government websites and independent third-party services. Those websites operate under their own privacy policies and terms. Travel Canada is not responsible for how external websites process information.
Travel Canada may use the Pinterest API to publish and manage its own Pins and boards and to review performance information for that content. Visitors are not required to connect a Pinterest account to use this website. Pinterest processes activity on its platform under Pinterest’s own privacy policy.
Data sharing
We do not sell visitors’ personal information. Limited technical data may be processed by service providers that host, secure, or operate the website, subject to their applicable terms.
Retention and security
Technical records are retained only as long as reasonably necessary for website operation, security, troubleshooting, and legal obligations. Reasonable safeguards are used, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
Your choices
You may use browser controls to limit cookies or delete locally stored website data. Requests concerning information held by a linked third-party service should be directed to that service.
